They want people that young now to get the Vaccine!

The WHO's decision to name the flu a "pandemic" is also coming under scrutiny from European investigators, and stands accused of exaggerating the dangers of the H1N1 outbreak, which emerged in April last year.

A report by the Council of Europe, also released on Friday, accused the WHO of a lack of transparency over the pandemic announcement - saying it wasted huge sums of money and provoked "unjustified fears".

This article and Story is Very Disturbing to me. As I read and understand the story - The University of Hawaii athletes were called in by the coach and then blindsided, as they were given the Swine Flu vaccine! The University did that, to get the other students to also have the vaccine.
The parents nor anyone else was notified - if I was a parent I would be completely Outraged, even though the students are over 18. Why did they blindside the athletes as they did?

University of Hawaii athletes were vaccinated with the H1N1 nasal spray vaccine yesterday as part of a state effort to encourage other young people to get the vaccine.

They just grabbed me in the student athletic center," said junior and football linebacker Aaron Rink, 22, who was treated to a dose of nasal spray vaccine.

Some Rainbow Wahine softball team members showed up for vaccinations at the Stan Sheriff Center, saying their coach had called them.

The H1N1 virus targets young people, but 19- to 24-year-olds -- a priority group for the vaccine -- have been slow to respond, said Dr. Sarah Park, state epidemiologist.

They have received only 3.84 percent of the vaccine available to date, a total of 3,518 doses.

Dr. Andrew Nichols, UH-Manoa head team physician and interim director of University Health Services, said many students had left the campus for the holidays before the vaccine arrived.

However, he said the school has several hundred doses now and is trying to get it to as many students as possible before they leave for winter vacation.

Softball players Stephanie Ricketts of San Jose, Calif., and Kelly Majam of San Diego, both sophomores, had the flu mist.

"I knew my mom would want me to," said Ricketts. "She's a nurse.

Teammate Alex Aguirre of Temple City, Calif., said she could not have nasal mist because she has asthma. She said she planned to see her doctor for an injection.

Park said the vaccine supply is starting to catch up with the demand for priority groups. Nasal spray expires sooner than the injectable vaccine, so the department has expanded its use for any healthy people ages 2 through 49 who are not pregnant.

Providers still are asked to follow federal guidelines for injectable vaccine for priority groups: pregnant women, those who live with infants under 6 months old, health care and emergency medical services workers, children and young adults ages 6 months through 24 years, and those 25 through 64 with underlying medical conditions.

Park said 471,400 H1N1 vaccine doses had been allocated to Hawaii as of yesterday, and 262,040 doses have either been shipped or are on their way to the 567 providers registered to give vaccinations.

The department set aside 77,460 doses for H1N1 school clinics, which will end early next month, and 42,547 students have been vaccinated.

Parents of college students returning from the mainland for the holidays are encouraged to get them vaccinated here because of problems getting the vaccine on the mainland, Park said.

Although H1N1 is waning on the mainland, Park said there are a lot of infections in Canada and that it is still circulating around the world.

"It's holding steady at a low level" in Hawaii, she said, "but we're not out of the woods. We have to be extra-vigilant. We are a global village now. We need to make sure people keep getting vaccinated."

I had read a couple of months ago, about Ditan Hospital treating people with H1N1 flu with a tea and that is cured them.

I have been meaning to put that information in here - the ingredients were released at the time the first report came out. The ingredients are not in this article, BUT I can tell you what they are. I had gone to a Chinese store last month and got them. It is actually a combination of various teas.

The ingredients for the tea is:

Licorice (I got the pieces in a bag and grind them for the tea)
Mint
Honeysuckle
Galanga - at the Chinese Store the Oriental lady, said this was what is in the tea (another name) used.

BEIJING, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese medical specialists announced Thursday they had developed a Chinese herbal medication to treat the A/H1N1 flu.

Seven months of scientific and clinical studies showed the remedy, called "Jin Hua Qing Gan Fang," was effective in treating A/H1N1 flu patients, said Wang Chen, president of Beijing's Chaoyang Hospital.

"It can shorten patients' fever period and improve their respiratory systems. Doctors have found no negative effects on patients who were treated in this way," he said.

"It is also very cheap, only about a quarter of the cost of Tamiflu," he said at a press conference held by the Beijing Municipal Government.

Tamiflu, a product of Swiss drugmaker Roche Holding, was recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) for the treatment of the A/H1N1 flu.

"The municipal government has gathered the most outstanding medical experts in the Chinese capital to develop the new medication," Zhao Jing, director of the Beijing Municipal Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, said at the press conference.

Over the past seven months, more than 120 medical specialists, led by academicians Wang Yongyan and Li Lianda from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, had participated in the research, she said.

The municipal government earmarked 10 million yuan (1.47 million U.S. dollars) for the project, she said.

"Medical experts proved the effectiveness of Jin Hua in treating A/H1N1 flu from both the basic scientific studies and clinical studies," she said.

The basic scientific studies lasted for almost five months and were conducted by experts from the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Beijing University of Technology.

"In vivo and in vitro, experiments on mice and rabbits show JinHua can bring down a fever and resist the A/H1N1 flu virus," said Huang Luqi, vice president of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences.

Thursday's Beijing Daily hailed the new herbal medication as the "world's first traditional Chinese medicine to treat the A/H1N1 flu".

Citing medical officials, the paper said "Jin Hua" was picked from among more than 100 classic anti-flu prescriptions based on traditional Chinese herbal medicine.

"Science workers proved its effectiveness through medical experiments on more than 4,000 mice and clinical studies on 410 patients with slight A/H1N1 flu syndrome," it said.

The "Jin Hua" prescription had been adopted in many local traditional Chinese medicine hospitals, it said.

Zhao Jing said 11 hospitals nationwide, including Chaoyang Hospital and Ditan Hospital in Beijing, had conducted clinical studies on "Jin Hua" and gave positive assessments.

"We are applying for patents for 'Jin Hua' both at home and abroad," she said.

"We are further developing the medicine and trying to present it to the whole country and world as soon as possible, thus offering an alternative to treat the A/H1N1 flu," she said.

The Chinese mainland has reported almost 108,000 A/H1N1 flu cases, including 442 deaths, according to the Ministry of Health.

Dr. Cris Tunon, senior program management officer at the WHO Representative Office in China, said Thursday the "WHO welcomes the clinical results," as the traditional Chinese medicine offered a low-cost treatment of A/H1N1 flu.

Vicky, I had noticed that most of your articles always refers to Dr. Niman's site as a reference for your information (in fact Dr. Niman's site is the Only site the MSM uses as a source of information). With that in consideration, and considering Dr. Niman's company and website is about working for the creation of vaccines. Besides the research I have been doing on him, brings up many questions about where his loyalties lay, and what his company really focuses on. Considering he very much promotes vaccines and some how he gets information others do not from WHO.

I read your articles and noticed a reoccurring theme, also we all read things in various ways. Now you are mentioning the CDC did a study from 2000 women from 1976 - you did NOT mention that in your article! It seems, if that is Fact - you should have said that it was Based from 1976!! That is completely irresponsible of the CDC to recommend it to pregnant women from a vaccine that was created in 1976, in my opinion!!

Also in being a reporter with that Information - then why did you not Question (as I am right now) about the vaccine being supposedly different now than in 1976? The 1976 vaccines were proven to cause more damage and deaths than the Swine Flu that year! That is HUGE information - that I have not seen in your articles and did not know before! You just gave me information that should be yelled across the Air ways!! The 1976 vaccine was Lethal and the CDC USED that for Recommending to Pregnant Women, because the babies did not get TOO MANY tumors?! That is NUTS!!

Funny, how you are taking exception to the fact I have read your articles and have taken them as a slant to promote the Swine Flu vaccine and you think I have twisted them. Now a question - doesn't the Main Stream Media twist things all the time? Don't they read or report something the way they want people to hear the news? Plane with arms bound for Ukraine was detained in Thailand

A cargo plane full of North Korean weapons, detained in Thailand after an emergency landing at Bangkok airport, was bound for Ukraine, the Thai news agency TNA reported on Sunday.

Thai authorities on Saturday seized about 40 tons of weapons from an Il-76 cargo plane which they said had come from North Korea after it landed for refueling at Bangkok's Don Muang airport, and arrested its five crew members.

Ukraine said later on Sunday that it is checking the reports on the plane. "The information on this score is being verified," a Foreign Ministry official said.

The aircraft's weapons arsenal included missiles and rocket-propelled grenades.

According to TNA, the plane's crew commander, a Belarusian national, said during a six-hour interrogation that the plane had flown from Ukraine and loaded weapons in North Korea.

The plane's commander said the aircraft refueled in Azerbaijan, then in the United Arab Emirates and after that in Thailand while en route to Pyongyang. On its way back, the plane was intended to refuel in Thailand and Sri Lanka, following which the cargo was expected to be delivered to Ukraine, TNA reported.

The plane's commander claimed that neither he, nor the other crewmembers who are Kazakh nationals knew about the military nature of the cargo.

Thai authorities accuse the crew of the plane, which is registered in Georgia, of illegal storage and transportation of weapons and misinformation, TNA reported. A United Nations resolution bans the transportation of certain weapons, including conventional arms, from or to North Korea.

The communist state is in the center of a long-running international dispute on its nuclear program.

The seizure came days after the U.S. presidential envoy's rare visit to North Korea designed to persuade Pyongyang to return to six-nation nuclear disarmament talks. Both parties said after the trip they understood the need to resume the talks.

Today, I received this Email from Slovenia - the person linked youtube videos.
the videos is of them walking along the road, you can see white spots on the road, which I assume is the "White Grit Rain" that is in the email.

This is someone is writing in English, though it is not their main language.

We often read your side, so that we so now the news. We read too about the spraying planes... I will write you, what is happened by us in ouer town on 12.Dec.2009 in the morning. It was a little snowing and then bigann to fall a white rain, we never so such a rain. It was white and big drops and its stick very hard on the surface wher is fall down. And in this drops you can see little, little like grains, like grits. The surface of the drops is not flat, but humpy, knobby. We never so such thing like this!! Amid an unsettling report today of Tamiflu resistance in a Danish A(H1N1) patient, comes a study in The New England Journal of Medicine tracing the swine flu's 90-year evolution.

The current flu strain has genetic roots in an illness that sickened pigs at a swine show in 1918 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A near-century of development since then may include this flu's accidental resurrection from an extinct strain.

Here's what likely went down. At the same time the 1918 flu pandemic was spreading among humans, pigs were hit with a similar respiratory illness. Early experiments confirmed the 1918 swine virus and a human strain emerged about the same time.

According to the authors of the new paper, there was a temporary "extinction" of this strain of virus from humans in 1957. But then it reemerged 20 years later in a small 230-person outbreak in 1976 among soldiers in Fort Dix, New Jersey. That outbreak did not extend beyond the military base.

However the next year H1N1 reemerged in people in the Soviet Union, Hong Kong, and northeastern China. The genetic origin of that 1977 strain turns out not to be the 1976 Fort Dix strain. Instead, it was closely related to a 1950 human strain.

Which means that given the genetic similarity of the two strains, reemergence was likely due to an accidental release during laboratory studies of the 1950 strain that had been preserved as a "freezer" virus.

Ouch. Hate it when that happens.

The authors hypothesize that concerns about the Fort Dix outbreak stimulated a flurry of research on H1N1 viruses in 1976, which led to an accidental release and reemergence of the previously extinct virus a year later. The reemerged 1977 H1N1 strain has been circulating in various seasonal influenzas ever since—including today's.

Plans are being drawn up to ensure under-fives are given a swine flu vaccination.

They are the next at-risk group in line to receive the immunisation from the NHS.

Nationally, the Government and GPs have failed to reach an agreement on the swine flu vaccination programme for under-fives.

Ministers had offered doctors £5.25 per dose plus a "small concession'' to vaccinate healthy children aged from six months to five.

But the two sides have been unable to agree on how doctors will be compensated for carrying out the vaccinations.

The Government has now asked primary care trusts to come up with plans for handling immunisation in their area.

Dr Peter Marks said: "The NHS in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland is committed to the vaccination of healthy children aged six months up to five years.

"This age group has been identified as being quite vulnerable to the virus and should be given this extra protection.

Staff at GP practices have been doing a magnificent job vaccinating thousands of people in the phase one at-risk groups and still have many patients to see.

"Meanwhile, parents of healthy children who are aged from six months but who are not yet five, should wait until they are invited to attend a vaccination session."

The trust said children's vaccinations would start once the most at-risk group had been immunised, but could not confirm when this would be.

The most at risk include patients with underlying health conditions, such as liver, kidney, heart and lung disease, as well as pregnant women and people who are living with patients with a reduced immunity.

TORONTO — Seven healthy people on a train from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi in Vietnam caught Tamiflu-resistant H1N1 flu, researchers reported Wednesday in a prominent medical journal.

The transmission event, which occurred in July, is one of the largest clusters of cases of resistant H1N1 seen so far and the first time so many linked cases have been seen in previously healthy people who had not been on the drug.

Surveillance since the summer has only turned up three additional drug resistant viruses, the authors note in their letter to the New England Journal of Medicine. But they say they cannot rule out the possibility of ongoing transmission of resistant pandemic H1N1.

The event is a warning that resistant viruses can spread among healthy people and more such events may be in store, an antiviral expert with the World Health Organization said.

"What this looks to be is ... the sort of situation we have been alert for, because it's something that we certainly don't want to see happening but need to know about if it does," Charles Penn said in an interview from Geneva.

Penn said this event is different from two recent clusters, in which severely immunocompromised patients in hospitals in Wales and North Carolina developed and probably transmitted among themselves Tamiflu-resistant H1N1 virus. It's known that resistance develops easily in such patients.

This, however, is a case where healthy people, who weren't taking the drug and who had no known contacts with sick people in the week before they fell ill, were infected with resistant viruses — "which is an apparent transmission of the resistant virus in a more normal community setting," Penn said.

"This is different and it does raise the levels of concern. But it also I think reinforces the message that we do need to be constantly monitoring for this. And reporting it as quickly as it's observed."

The scientists, from Vietnam's National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology and Oxford University's clinical research unit in Vietnam, reported that the event first hit the radar in early September when routine screening of H1N1 viruses turned up three with the mutation known to confer resistance to Tamiflu.

The ensuing public health investigation uncovered a tale of a 42-hour train trip in which 10 students who didn't know each other prior to the journey socialized on the train.

Six of the 10 became sick a day or two after arriving at their destination. Two didn't develop symptoms and public health officials were not able to trace two others.

Interestingly, a seventh person who travelled in a different carriage on the same train and who doesn't appear to have been in contact with the students also contracted Tamiflu resistant H1N1 during the trip.

"Ongoing transmission from the cluster was not detected, but the tracing of all contacts was not possible, so ongoing transmission (of resistant virus) cannot be ruled out," the authors wrote, adding that careful use of flu antivirals should be stressed to minimize that risk.

Penn said to date there have been over 100 cases of Tamiflu-resistant H1N1 viruses spotted. About a third have been seen in immunocompromised patients. Of the remaining two-thirds, nearly all have been in people who took the drug to treat or prevent illness, or who had close contact with people who took the drug for one of those purposes.

Prior to this report, he said, there have only been four cases spotted in people who hadn't taken the drug and didn't have traceable exposure to someone who had.

The authors reported they were able to grow viruses from samples from three of the cases.

Penn said the WHO will want to know if the viruses have been checked for other mutations that might account for the seemingly easy spread of resistant viruses. "I think we'll be in touch with the authors."

It used to be thought that flu viruses that developed resistance to Tamiflu would be so weakened by the mutation that confers resistance that they would not be able to spread from person to person. But that belief was shattered in the winter of 2008 when Norway reported a startling rate of Tamiflu resistance in seasonal H1N1 viruses.

Over the next year, the resistant seasonal H1N1 viruses virtually crowded out the Tamiflu-susceptible versions of the virus — a precedent public health authorities don't want to see repeated with the pandemic virus.

"But we are expecting and we've said this, that as the pandemic spreads through this Northern Hemisphere winter and as the medicines continue to be used around the world, the number of sporadic cases is going to rise, as it has been at a steady by small rate," Penn said.

"And then the risk of this sort of event occurring is going to increase with more virus around and those infections being treated."

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- A family whose child received the swine flu vaccine claims it had a serious adverse effect, but some doctors doubt it.

Elisha Garcia said her 14-month-old daughter Mykaylah was born premature and suffers from epilepsy.

"We got her to where she needed to be. We got her seizures under control and she was the happiest little girl," said Elisha Garcia.

Both parents claim it all changed after a visit to their daughter's doctor. Her dad, Damian Garcia, said they were told she should get the swine flu vaccine.

"'It is OK. They haven't found anything wrong with it.' And I said, 'Are you sure?'" Damian Garcia said.

Both parents said they were convinced and Mykaylah got the shot.

"In that two-week period after that, she just started gradually going down and going down," Damian Garcia said. "She would stand up and she would just collapse over."

Tests were done and Mykaylah was diagnosed with ataxia, meaning she has trouble controlling her movements. Her parents claim a neurologist told them the swine flu vaccine could possibly have been a factor, maybe the result of an adverse effect.

Both parents said that there was no doubt the vaccine may have caused the side effect, but one doctor refuted their claims.

"There is no evidence, from the close surveillance, that CDC is giving this vaccine, that there is any such reaction," said pediatrician Dr. Lance Chilton.

Chilton said it's a vaccine that could save lives and he tells his patients to get it.

"I think there is good evidence that No. 1: that it is safe; No. 2: that it is effective and No. 3: that the influenza could come back and hit us as hard as it did in 1957," Chilton said.

With the second wave of H1N1 infections having crested in the United States, leading epidemiologists are predicting that the pandemic could end up ranking as the mildest since modern medicine began documenting influenza outbreaks.

Experts warn that influenza is notoriously unpredictable, but several recent analyses, including one released late Monday, indicate the death toll is likely to be far lower than the number of fatalities caused by past pandemics.

The predictions are being met with a mix of skepticism, relief and trepidation: Public health officials worry people may get complacent about getting vaccinated, which could prove disastrous if a third wave of infections swells later this winter or the virus mutates into a more dangerous form.

"I think it is very likely to be the mildest pandemic on record," said Marc Lipsitch, a professor of epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health, who led a federally funded analysis with researchers at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and elsewhere published online Monday by the journal PLoS Medicine.

The analysis, based on data collected in New York City and Milwaukee, indicates that the virus might directly cause between 6,000 and 45,000 deaths by the end of the winter, with the final toll probably falling somewhere between 10,000 and 15,000, Lipsitch said.

In the worse-case scenario, the swine flu pandemic would claim no more than about 60,000 lives, Lipsitch's new analysis concluded.

Even if the overall death toll does end up being relatively low, several experts noted that the pandemic has already taken an unusually high tally among children and young adults.

"We've had hundreds of deaths among children, which is a tragedy any way you look at it," said Anne Schuchat, director of the CDC's National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases.

A typical flu season is associated with an average of 36,000 deaths in the United States, and an estimate released in August by a presidential advisory panel that Lipsitch was involved in predicted the novel 2009 H1N1 virus could kill between 30,000 and 90,000 Americans.

"Those were the best estimates we could make at the time based on the data available at the time," Lipsitch said. "We now have much better data to make estimates from."

When the presidential council's estimate was made, experts thought the virus could make up to 30 percent of the population sick. So far the virus appears to be causing symptoms in much smaller proportion, perhaps 15 percent, Lipsitch said.

The new analysis also indicates that the pandemic's "symptomatic case-fatality ratio" -- the percentage of those who become ill that die -- has been far lower than the previous three pandemics.

"If things continue as they've gone so far, this could turn out to be quite mild," said Ira M. Longini Jr., a professor of biostatistics at the University of Washington in Seattle who has calculated a similarly low case-fatality rate based on CDC data. Several experts praised the new analysis as the most sophisticated and therefore reliable to date.

"From what we know now, it would appear this is the mildest, both compared to 1968 and 1957 and certainly 1918," said Neal M. Ferguson, an epidemiologist at Imperial College in London who advises the World Health Organization and the Health and Human Services Department. The pattern appears to be consistent in other developed countries, such as Britain, he noted.

Others, however, cautioned that previous pandemics have produced deadly late-winter waves, which could occur in this case, pushing up the death toll dramatically. More older people could also start to get infected, which could also increase the toll.

To encourage Americans to continue to get vaccinated, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius Monday unveiled a new multimedia advertising campaign aimed at countering complacency. After a slow start, more than 80 million doses of vaccine are now available, she said.

"We have to seize this opportunity as disease is going down slightly to remind folks how important this is," Sebelius said.

While agreeing that people should continue to get vaccinated, Lipsitch and others said they doubted a major increase of deaths would occur in a third wave without some major change in the virus.

"I doubt very much it will get very much worse," Ferguson said. "There's a faint possibility, but I don't think there will be a major change."

One major reason for the relatively low death toll is that the elderly, who tend to be most vulnerable to dying from complications from the flu, have largely been spared so far, apparently because many have some immunity against the disease. The 36,000 deaths blamed on a typical flu season include many that are actually caused by heart attacks, strokes and other complications associated with the flu among the elderly and people with other health problems. Only about 9,000 deaths are directly caused by the flu virus during a typical flu season.

"Sometimes Mother Nature throws us a break," said Howard Markel, director of the Center for the History of Medicine at the University of Michigan.

But other factors may also be playing a role, including the virus being less likely to cause illness and severe illness than viruses involved in previous pandemics as well as better medical care available than in previous decades, such as antiviral drugs and more sophisticated intensive care techniques.

"In 1918 it was really prehistoric medical care," Markel said. "In 1957, we really didn't have intensive care. In 1968 we were starting to have it but it was nothing like we have today."

Nonetheless, Lipsitch and others stressed that the massive multibillion dollar vaccination campaign and other intense responses were appropriate, given the uncertainty of what the nation and world was facing.

"You have to err on the side of caution to some extent," Lipsitch said. "We got lucky. But if we didn't have a plan in place and we had 60,000 or 70,000 deaths, people would have been justifiably outraged."

Pneumococcal disease is caused by bacteria (Streptococcus pneumoniae) that can attack different parts of the body. The bacteria can cause serious infections of the lungs (pneumonia), the bloodstream (bacteremia) and the covering of the brain (meningitis).

Pneumococcal pneumonia is a serious illness, accounting for 10 percent to 25 percent annually of all pneumonias. Nationally, about 40,000 persons die as a result of pneumococcal pneumonia each year, but the illness is particularly dangerous for the very young, the elderly and persons with certain high-risk conditions. For example, among people 65 years of age and older with pneumococcal pneumonia, about 20 percent to 30 percent develop bacteremia. At least 20 percent of those with bacteremia die from it, even though they receive antibiotics.

For days, 33-year-old Lisa Briggs had symptoms. She had chills, fatigue, spiking fevers -- but she didn't want to go to the hospital and leave her family.

"She didn't want to be in the hospital, away from the kids," said her husband, Chris Briggs.

On Halloween night, Lisa, a mother of two, agreed to go to the hospital.

After days in Wheeling Hospital, Lisa was life-flighted to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W. Va. Her condition was so bad she was quarantined in a glass room.

"She was in an isolation room. They did a wash-out of her lungs and she did test positive for swine flu," said Briggs.

Doctors also discovered that Lisa had bacterial pneumonia. Doctors induced a coma after her condition deteriorated. Before she went under, her husband of 11 years came to her side.

"I just told her I loved her and to get better," said Briggs.

She never regained consciousness.

"We saw them do CPR on her and everything," said Briggs

On Nov. 14 at 10:35 a.m., the doctor told Lisa's family she had passed.

"His exact words were, 'She played good ball, but the game was over'," said Briggs.

Lisa and her husband had just bought a new house in Weirton, W. Va. She never lived in it. Now, her family fills the walls of their new home with lasting memories of her.

"She loved kids. Pretty much her life revolved around me, the kids and church," said Briggs.

He said her only underlying medical condition was sleep apnea. It's unclear where she contracted the virus.

The message is clear – we are all going to die from swine flu. It spreads fast, it is dangerous, and it must be feared – says the World Health Organization

But worry not – there is a way to save yourself. Just get a flu shot – and purchase a remedy for the deadly virus. Those are the instructions from the WHO.

However, the WHO may find itself coughing up explanations, as more and more scientists and health researchers, and even journalists, are starting to question the organization’s motives behind raising the alert so quickly.

According to the Danish Daily Information newspaper, the WHO and pharmaceutical companies are suffering from the profit bug. Or, to put it simply, the chief health care organization in the world has teamed up with the drug makers to create a phantom monster – and to rake in cash by selling a remedy for it.

Plastered all over the front pages and headlines news, swine flu made its triumphant entrance into limelight, heralded as the next “in” virus, which threatened to bring an end to humanity as we know it.

Let's stop right there and talk numbers for a little bit.

So far, more than 3.5 million people have been reported to be infected with swine flu worldwide. More than 9,000 deaths have been confirmed.

In comparison: every year, up to one billion people get infected with seasonal flu, with up to 500,000 deaths. These numbers come from the World Health Organization, but they never make headline news for some reason.

On June 11 of this year, the WHO declared swine flu a pandemic. But few know that, right before doing that, the Organization changed its definition, taking out the word “deadly” from it.

Aleksander Saversky, the chair of the Patient's Rights Protection League, was one of those who did pay attention. He says it is clear that the WHO dramatized the situation around the H1N1 virus. In an interview to RT, Saversky speculated that it is due to the WHO's close ties with the world's major pharmaceutical companies.

And recently, Danish journalists conducted their own research, which resulted in accusations that the WHO, and scientists who appear to be independent are, in fact, on pharmaceutical companies' payroll.

Saversky points out that the WHO declared the status of pandemic when only a few thousand people were infected with it – something that is highly illogical, he says, considering the hundred thousand more cases of seasonal flu never gets paid such high attention.

The virus was reported to be extremely deadly. Parallels were drawn to the Spanish Flu, which killed roughly 50 million people worldwide in the span of six months.

As panic spread, people rushed to clinics for Tamiflu – $145 a pop and by prescription only in the US – and for vaccinations, which range anywhere from $10 to $50. And despite the fact that many have lost their jobs in the financial crisis, and were left without health insurance, vaccinations and pharmaceutical sales skyrocketed. Nobody wants to die a grisly death from the supposedly new virus.

Aleksander Saversky warns the hullaballoo over swine flu is akin to the fable of “The Boy Who Cried Wolf.” He says that, because of this hype, the next time a truly dangerous virus comes about, no one will take any precautions. Fooled once already by swine flu, people will ignore the warnings and fall prey to a more dangerous – and deadly virus.

In fact, vaccinating people from swine flu during the seasonal flu outbreak, in Saversky’s opinion, is criminal. People end up having to battle two viruses at the same time, which puts an enormous strain on the immune system.

Saversky puts the blame on capitalism – pharmaceutical companies make billions on people's fears, combined with asymmetrical information dispersal (meaning that most people know very little substantial information about the virus, whereas the WHO, pharmaceutical companies and researchers know a lot more).

So, what's to be done to conquer the virus – and stop the WHO?

Saversky says there is one solution – for governments worldwide to step in and take matters into their own hands, by controlling healthcare and pharmaceutical production.

Until that happens, however, remember to check for all common flu symptoms. And should a general disinclination to work of any kind be among them, rest assured – it is most probably a run-of-the-mill case of the Monday Blues.

How is it California can get this amount of money on masks and gloves in a federal grant, yet the Federal Government won't give them money for anything else? So the money goes to Big Pharma for masks and gloves (which are pharma owned companies)? This information "stinks" of propaganda and another way of getting people to get the Swine Flu Vaccine in mass! Of course those are just my opinions.

California school districts will receive 23 million masks and pairs of gloves to help curb the spread of swine flu, the state schools chief announced Friday.

"We want to keep students, teachers and staff healthy and in school," Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell O'Connell said in a statement.

Details of the program were being released at a Los Angeles County warehouse in Santa Fe Springs packed with boxes of disposable gloves and masks.

The items, paid for by federal grants, will be shipped free to 58 county offices of education and to the Los Angeles Unified School District, which is the nation's second-largest district.

They are intended for roughly 10,000 public schools with about 6.3 million students in more than 1,000 districts, said Hilary McLean, a spokeswoman for the California Department of Education. Shipping of the supplies began late last month, she said.

Federal guidelines recommend that students with H1N1 symptoms such as fever, cough, and sore throat be sent to a separate office or sick room until they can leave campus.

But it can take several hours before parents can pick up their children, McLean said.

In the meantime, the child will be asked to wear a surgical mask while the school nurse or other staffer will wear a different type of mask and gloves, McLean said.

There have been more than 7,200 cases of swine flu reported in California this year, 366 of them fatal, according to the state Department of Public Health.

Although some counties have reported drops in the number of new swine flu cases, indicating the pandemic may have peaked locally, McLean said schools can always store the masks and gloves in case there's an outbreak of another type of flu.

"Next year, we're sure to have another flu season," she said.
